Is there a cure for hearing loss on the horizon?

Some of the world’s best medical researchers are examining how to cure hearing loss caused by damaged hair cells and nerve fibres. While hearing aids and other hearing devices (such as cochlear implants) change people’s lives, they are not cures for hearing loss; they are aids that help a hearing impaired individual hear better while wearing the device.

While we are making great advances in the transplantation of hair cells, the first clinical trials of this procedure are thought to be about a decade away as they work to solve some major issues preventing successful implantation.
