Wax removal involves some preparation prior to booking an appointment which includes confirming wax impaction via otoscopy and instructions to soften the wax prior to your visit. Please ensure you call ahead to discuss the details of your visit and follow all instructions before arriving for a wax removal appointment. We recommend using Audiologist Choice drops, which work to dissolve ear wax, for 3 nights prior to your scheduled visit. Audiologist Choice drops are available in all clinics for purchase.
NOTE: *Any drops, used with a purpose to dissolve wax, are not recommended for clients with perforated tympanic membranes- “eardrum”.*
Our clinicians are trained in wax removal using curettes, as well as using the Gomco Suction Pump.
Wax removal with irrigation is not recommended for the following patients:
- Perforated tympanic membrane
- History of perforated tympanic membrane
- History of ear surgery I.e Mastoid Cavity
- History of systemic diseases due to increased risk of infection
A physician referral is not required to book wax removal at Hearing Institute Atlantic.
